Mission
Dr. Bhagwadas Central Library occupies a place of
pride and is an essential component of the university’s outstanding research
and education mission. It is a most lively place on the campus providing a
safe, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and
advancement of knowledge, and promotes discovery and scholarship. Mission of the Central Library is to
facilitate creation of new knowledge through acquisition, organization and
dissemination of knowledge resources and providing for value added services.
History
Formerly known as Bhagwandas Swadhyaypith was established in 1921 later named as Dr. Bhagwandas Central Library. He was renowned philosopher and first Vice Chancellor of the university. Many stalwarts of the national movement including Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru, Jamunalal Bajaj, Acharya J.B. Kripalani, Puroshottamdas Tandon, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, Dr. Sampurnanand, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Pandit Kamalapati Tripathi etc. were closely associated with this library. It has rich collection of books in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, now the library is developing as a centre of modern learning.
Library Collection & Resources The central library of the university is situated in the middle of the university campus and the total area in library of both the floors is 2250sq. meter. At present it has total collection of 2,44,352 documents. It also contains a section of unpublished theses. The collected information material has been organized discipline wise in multistoried stacks.
Organization of Collections Books are basically organized by the 19th edition of Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme on the iron racks in the ground floor of the library.
Textbooks
User community of the academic library constitutes mostly the students, teachers and research scholars. The academic courses requires various sets of prescribed textbooks, therefore the library maintains a separate collection of books, so large number of students may use and share their requisite information.
Reference Books The library has good collection of reference tools, such as encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, yearbooks, which are secondary or derived source of information. These collections are continuously updated with tools & supplements to old ones, in order to give only the latest on the subject.
Theses
Theses collection includes only the doctoral these submitted by the students of the university.

Reference Service
A service that helps you to make full use of the resources in the library, it includes: • Guidance in the use of information resources and services • Instructions for accessing library card catalogue, arranged in classified order • Library orientation and information literacy programmes.
Photocopying Service
The library provides photocopying service to the students, faculty, research scholar, staff and other walk-in users of the university.
Newspaper Clipping Service Central library provides newspaper clippings service to the Vice Chancellor related to university, educational and other S&T developments.
Samaj Kalyan Books - A special
Collection for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Students
Text books from this collection are issued to the
students belonging to SC/ST.
Textbook Study Section
Textbooks of different courses are kept in the study room at the Textbook Section for a specified period. These books can be used in the library against Identity Card.
Issue of Books
The library issues books for the entire duration of the curriculum to all the users of the university.
Internet &
Allied Services
Internet access facility and other services as INFLIBNET, ERNET are available in the computer section of the library.
